The Lagos State University (LASU) was established in 1984 as a Multi campus, Non residential university. Twenty years after, the university has manifested the dreams of its founding fathers, putting together the main objectives of the university to meet in peculiar the needs of Lagos and Nigeria in general.
The POST UME is a new program that was taken into consideration by some Universities last year, of which few were able to implement it against all odds. Now there is no turning back on it. Lagos State University is one of the few.
The POST UME/DIRECT ENTRY Screening Tests are actually designed to put a check on the calibre of individuals admitted into the institution. It has been recorded in the past that some students who come in through JAMB have very high JAMB scores, but after admission they are
unable to cope academically and it's been a wonder how a student who is supposed to be brilliant as he/she was admitted on merit is struggling to stay just below average.
Some of these students eventually become a nuisance to the University because students that can't cope academically tend to find themselves useful in creating problems for the institution, thereby creating a bad impression to the public on the type of students being bred in LASU. As a result of this the school initiated the POST UME/DIRECT ENTRY Screening Tests to allow for only serious minded people to be admitted.
Some of the objectives of Lagos State University the school are:
» An open, free and fair admission process.
» Test the level of genuine intelligence of the students coming in and seperate the serious ones from the unserious ones.
» To reduce the number of hoodlums being admitted into the school.
